New Glass '06: Cowdy Gallery

Pod 8 by Deborah Fladgate.
Pod 8 by Deborah Fladgate.

Start: 8th July 2006
End: 5th August 2006

The exhibition 'New Glass '06' will be held at the Cowdy Gallery and features Studio Glass by by Deborah Fladgate, Stephanie Moore, Graham Muir,Yoshiko Okada, and Carole Waller.

The exhibition coincides with Newent's Arts Festival weekend [7th - 9th July], and will be opened by leading glass engraver Ronald Pennell.

The glass on show is particularly varied and the artworks on display have been executed to a very high standard.

Deborah Fladgate exhibits are particularly impressive, featuring coloured blown forms, Modules and Pods, which have subtly cut surface patterns that allow glimpses of internal decoration contained within each vessel.

Stephanie Muir's work is comprised of various glass bottle forms, which are reminiscent of traditional vessels. The bottles feature contemporary graphical decoration [text & images], which inject the pieces with a sense of humour.

Yoshiko Okada creates cast sculptures, which are themed around surreal self-portraits that explore the artist's Japanese heritage and sense of identity.

Graham Muir produces organic sculptures, which are produced by cutting into hand blown forms. The resulting artworks feature wave-like forms that resonate with the rhythms of the ocean. Graham Muir will also be exhibiting a number of minimalist stoppered bottles.

Carole Waller's sculptures take the form of laminated glass panels, which feature decorative fabrics that have been sandwiching between the layers of glass. Carole's work can be displayed in both interior and exterior contexts, and her work has been featured at the Chelsea Flower Show [2004 & 2005].

Visitors to the Cowdy Gallery will also be able to view the gallery¹s own permanent collection of studio glass [The Cowdy Collection]. The glass on show in the upper gallery represents some of the finest examples of Studio Glass to be found, including outstanding glass artworks by some of the UK's most notable glass artists.
