Calling all artists – submission criteria for the 2010 British Glass Biennale has now been published on the Biennale web site: www.biennale.org.uk.
The Biennale is open to artists, designers and craftspeople, working in all areas of contemporary glass practice or using glass as a key design element.
The 2010 exhibition will change in format from previous years - endeavouring to present a more complete representation of British Glass at this time. The exhibition will be made up primarily from the juried open submission artists and also a section of invited artists.
This year the UK’s premiere selling exhibition of contemporary glass has £7,500 in prize money to be won alongside its growing international status as the leading showcase for British based makers.
The British Glass Biennale is delighted to be working once again in association with the Worshipful Company of Glass Sellers to offer prizes for 2010. The Glass Sellers Award is worth £5000 with a Runner up of £1000 and the Glass Sellers Student Award of £1000 with Runner up of £500.
An expert panel will be judging the submissions; comprising:

Sylva Petrova – Director, Institute for International Research in Glass,
University of Sunderland
Alan J. Poole – Dan Klein Associates

The names of the selected exhibitors will be published at the end of April 2010 with the prize winners announced at the Awards Ceremony on 26 August at the Ruskin Glass Centre.
In 2008 81 artists were selected to exhibit, with Tracy Nicholls winning the British Glass Biennale Award, Bob Crooks winning the Glass Sellers Award and Timothy Boswell the Glass Sellers Student Award.
This massive representation of established artists and emerging new talent not only offers a clear illustration of the strength of the current British glass scene, but also reflects an extraordinarily wide range of styles and methods of glass-making.
The exhibition has developed a reputation for displaying work that is rich and diverse in discipline and form; from intricate glass beads through to contemporary chandeliers utilising both traditional techniques and the latest technologies. Jurors will be looking for technical excellence and artistic quality.

The exhibition starts on 27 August 2010 and is open 10am to 5pm daily until 11 September. Entry is free.
The Biennale is a highlight of the International Festival of Glass, a four-day public festival celebrating the rich and dynamic world of glass. The festival takes place from the 27 to 30 August 2010, with events being held at various locations across the Stourbridge Glass Quarter.
