Buy Contemporary Functional Sculptures by Jon Garcia.

Jon Garcia's functional sculptures are produced using the traditional marquetry skills of a master craftsman. Jon spends many hours refining his ideas, using 3D modelling software to plan out the colour schemes and patterns for each sculpture.

The distinctive use of pattern on each sculpture is rendered in various exotic woods, including Canary wood, Lace wood, Padauk, Yellow Heart and Purple Heart.

Jon Garcia's work represents a synergy between art and design: combining elements of Fine Art, Craft and Product Design. Jon's designs allow these disciplines to feed into one another, resulting in sculptural forms that are both functional and highly desirable.

Artist's Statement

"I graduated from Metro State College of Denver, Colorado with a BS in Industrial Design. While in the program I started designing functional sculptures using 3D modeling software. I do this in order to plan out colour schemes and patterns before I begin production, so a fare amount of design time is required for these projects.

On a deeper note I am interested in the grain of the wood, more so, what it represents; the history of growth. Growth is movement, and with each piece I attempt to represent movement through form, almost controlled growth, if you will. Aesthetically the grain of the wood and the many different colours of wood are very appealing to me. The natural colours of these exotic woods are beautiful; therefore no dies or stains are needed.

More so, I see my work simply as visual stimulation. What I really prefer is to let the work speak for itself; leaving it up the observer to depict what he or she likes about it."
