* Contemporary Mixed Media Drawings by Maryam Hashemi.

Maryam Hashemi studied Graphic Design in Iran and has lived in London [UK] since 2002.

Working mostly in Watercolour and Pencil, the vivid style of Maryam's compositions are infused with dreamlike imagery. Maryam Hashemi's symbolic compositions reflect her interest in directly expressing her subconscious through her artworks.

The imagery used in Maryam's drawings is incredibly personal, however the themes of her artworks are heavily influenced by her cultural upbringing.

Artist's Statement

"Painting has always been my natural act of impression; the images appear as a portal to my sub consciousness and they are the result of inspiration and fantasy or sometimes just a revival of a memory in a surreal atmosphere.

Reality and dream, past and the unknown future, legends and supernatural are the source of my inspiration.

Female figures are one of my preferred elements; I find women so magical, with layers of emotion and an aura of mystery.
Due to my upbringing in Iran religion had a powerful impact on me which has been reflected in some of my paintings.

A reflection of my subconscious and a connection to unknown would be another description for my work.

The mediums I work with are watercolours and pencils .I hardly choose a theme or subject before, it's mostly the other way round."
